Secret Summer

Secret Summer

On July 2nd and 3rd, SBC Theatre, the UK’s first Theatre Company of Sanctuary, will transform Endcliffe Park in Sheffield into a fantastical interactive adventure: Secret Summer.

Secret Summer has been co-created with SBC’s Youth Theatre of Sanctuary - made up of refugee and asylum-seeking children, the first of its kind in the UK. During weekly creative sessions, children aged 3-16 from around the globe, developed characters, storylines and design ideas, creating an exciting world of magic and wildlife.

Using the geolocated sound app 'Echoes,' families will be guided around the park by binaural narration, encountering real-life surprises along the way. Squirrels dance, elves picnic and dogs will answer riddles in an original story created by Syrian writer, Anan Tello. Simply download the free app, plug your headphones in and enjoy a dazzling live and interactive experience and maybe get your face painted too! The adventure will be available to experience for free in both English and Arabic.

Secret Summer builds on the success of Hidden Winter - SBC’s 2020 lockdown project made with The Herd - an audio walk adventure for family audiences to enjoy in their local park. The adventure has been played over 2,500 times across the world and described by Creative Tourist as ‘Pitched perfectly for little ones...an engaging and fun adventure that encourages listening and learning from each other.’

Where: Endcliffe Park, Rustlings Road, Sheffield S11 7AB. Meet the team in front of the playground to get started.

When: Saturday 2nd July & Sunday 3rd July, 12-3pm. Start times are staggered to make sure you get the best experience - story walks begin at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm and last 45 minutes (approx)

You do not need to book for this event.

If you can’t join the live event don’t worry! Secret Summer is available to download and enjoy anytime you take a trip to Endcliffe Park.
