Bootcamp to develop the next generation of multi-camera talent

Filming Performance Bootcamp now open to applications

The Space, ScreenSkills and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) have teamed up to offer a ‘Filming Performance Bootcamp’ in partnership with Solihull College and University Centre to develop the next generation of multi-camera teams for filming live performance content.

Filming Performance Bootcamp is a free 6-week programme for creative and arts professionals based in the West Midlands, Coventry or Warwickshire who are looking to expand their digital skills and further their careers. It will provide an essential overview of how live performances are captured for screen and how various art forms from music videos to poetry, theatre and dance can be filmed for TV and online audiences.

The Bootcamp will run over six weeks, from 30 January 2023 until 10 March 2023 and will allow students to participate alongside their existing work commitments.

Course schedule

The course schedule begins with a two-week intense workshop where students will hone their filming, vision mixing and editing skills in a professional studio environment. Students will also attend masterclasses with industry professionals throughout the course and gain hands-on training in capturing live performances, filming, and working with artists in various forms.

Providing an essential overview of how performances are scripted, recorded, streamed and edited, it will allow students to develop indemand skills in all aspects of live multi-camera filming of arts performances.

Who can apply?

The Filming Performance Bootcamp is now open for applications from creative and arts professionals over 19 years of age who live in the West Midlands Combined Authority area postcode (Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton), Coventry or Warwickshire.

Applicants do not need experience in filming or live capture but will have a developed understanding of live performances and an interest in interpreting this for digital audiences.

Bursaries available

The scheme is supported by ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the screen industries. ScreenSkills will provide bursaries of up to £2500 (per participant) to enable freelance arts professionals and those working in screen industries to participate in the course by removing any obstacles to participation, such as: covering the cost of lost earnings, access or childcare while on the course.
