Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella

Go behind the scenes

Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of the classic fairy tale is a true war-time romance, brought to life by iconic and ground-breaking British dance-theatre company New Adventures. In a magical night, Cinderella meets a dashing young RAF pilot, they are together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.

With costumes and sets from Lez Brotherston, which won an Olivier Award for his original designs, lighting by Olivier Award-winning Neil Austin and video and projection designed by Duncan McLean, Cinderella was performed in Surround Sound designed by Paul Groothuis. The production featured a specially commissioned recording played by a 60 piece orchestra taking the audience into the heart of Prokofiev’s magnificent score and the sights and sounds of war-torn London.

In partnership with The Space, New Adventures has released a new Behind the Scenes section for the show including learning resources for students and teachers.
