Paradise Carpet

Paradise Carpet is an immersive and innovative light carpet installation by British-Muslim artist Zarah Hussain, that weaves ever-changing patterns around its visitors, who are invited to interact with the work whilst bathed in coloured light.

The physical exhibition – at The Art House in Wakefield – explored the intersection of heritage, spirituality, geometry, technology, and contemporary art. Zarah’s designs are inspired by the Islamic world and the beautiful carpets found in various art collections within the UK, balancing tradition and innovation.

The project encourages cohesion and is a celebration of movement, migration and cross cultural connection. It acts a reminder of our shared humanity and the interconnectedness of cultures, both past and present.

Paradise Meditation

Acting as a legacy to the exhibition, Paradise Carpet: An Audio-Visual Meditation has launched on Art House’s YouTube channel. This guided audio-visual meditation immerses you in animations created by Hussain and is available in multiple languages, including Arabic, Farsi, English and a Multilingual blended language.

Research supports the idea that audio meditations can offer a sense of calm, peace, and balance, benefiting emotional well-being and overall health by reducing stress and promoting relaxation through focused attention.

The final guided meditation weaves these voices together, blending languages into a shared, universal experience, transforming the meditation into a collective expression of belonging.
