Truth to Power Café – a profound theatrical reflection on loss, hope, and resistance.

In 2025 Rotherham will be the world’s first Children’s Capital of Culture, a festival that will be designed and delivered by local children and young people to spotlight Rotherham as a cultural destination and home to a hive of creative talent.

A week-long launch event culminates with performances of Jeremy’s Goldstein’s Truth To Power Café at Rotherham Civic Theatre.

Young people speak powerful truths

Truth to Power Café will feature a diverse cast of young people from Rotherham aged 14 to 25. Each speaking powerful truths about something important to them that they believe should be important to all of us. Participants will speak of having cerebral palsy, being trans, being autistic, and about what it means to discover and embrace their identity at this moment in time. Some of the participants have never been on a stage before, and some of their stories are being heard for the first time.

The work is a profound theatrical reflection on loss, hope, and resistance and is told through memoir, poetry, image, music film, and personal stories from the youth of Rotherham in response to the question, ‘Who has power over you, and what do you want to say to them?’
