Creating digital spaces in libraries

March 18 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Over the last year, 9 library services, each with distinct ambitions and requirements, seized a unique opportunity to create and share digital experiences with their users.

The Digital Spaces programme, supported with funding from Arts Council England and the BFI, has been a catalyst for culture, creativity and innovation. As it finishes, what have we learned? What’s been created for and with local communities? How have new digital experiences been delivered? And what might be useful to other library services or cultural organisations working within communities?

Join us for a celebration of digital creativity, and to find out what’s possible when the tools for expression and participation are shared across a network.

Our panel, drawn from participating services and the project team, will cover:

  • The VR Tour – the different ways services promoted and presented the VR offer, and how we shared both hardware and licenced content.

  • Digital commissions – each library service commissioned its own piece of digital content. You’ll hear from three of services about their ideas, what they produced, and the impact of this work.

  • 180 VR filmmaking workshops – a series of short films created with local communities, and shown in the VR headsets.

  • We’ll discuss the value of developing a community of practice, and share our preliminary evaluation findings.
