Podcasting and audio storytelling for arts and culture

April 5, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm

Joe Bell, Head of Audience Development at The Space, and Clare Freeman, award-winning radio journalist and podcast producer will discuss what podcasting can offer arts organisations and their audiences, and the secrets of creating, producing and distributing your work. They’ll be joined by the following contributors who’ll share their experiences:

A Mile In My Shoes invites listeners to hear the stories of peoples’ lives while taking a walk in their shoes. Rachel Briscoe from the Empathy Museum will discuss how in addition to a touring interactive project, they decide to share these moving stories with a wider audience by created a weekly podcast series.

The Cinemile Married couple Dave and Cathy started podcasting their walk home from the movies. They’ll tell us how they went from a small home-built show to winning a clutch of awards and a loyal audience.

Thick As Thieves Ashleigh Harman, Digital Co-ordinator at Clean Break Theatre Company will talk us through developing podcast companion content to elaborate on the themes explored in Thick As Thieves, their recent co-production with Theatre Clywd.

Over the course of the day we’ll cover:

• What does podcasting offer arts and cultural organisations?
• What do audiences want from podcasts?
• How can audio enhance the stories you want to tell?
• What are the practical considerations when producing and distributing podcasts?
• How can you build and sustain an audience for your podcast?

Group discussions and opportunities to think about your own projects will be woven between the sessions.
