Creative digital training for Midlands Libraries

Free online meet-ups

From March through to July, The Space will host Zoom meet-ups for library staff, discussing creative digital content. These are sharing sessions, an opportunity to talk to and hear from peers about what works (and what doesn’t!) for you and ways in which libraries interact with communities online, and deliver digital experiences to users. For each meet-up we’ll be joined by guests who will share thoughts and examples from their work.
These meet-ups are supported by Arts Council England.

Tackling abuse online: practical steps for libraries
Wednesday 9th July 10.30 – 12.00
On Zoom

LibraryOn has teamed up with The Space for this webinar, which offers ways to help library staff avoid – or manage – online abuse. We also share strategies for managing the impact if it does happen.

The webinar is for any library staff who post content online or manage social media accounts, anyone with responsibility for comms or digital in their service, and anyone who has a duty of care to team members doing this work.

We cover:

  • The current landscape – examples of hateful and critical language /online abuse that libraries are facing, and the law in this area
  • What you can do to limit the impact of online abuse on yourself or your colleagues
  • Processes and plans that can be implemented to help safeguard yourselves, your teams and library users

The session is led by John White and Rowan Kerek Robertson. John is the Chief Operating Officer for The Space, and Rowan is a social media consultant and former head of social media for BBC television. Together, they provide consultancy and training in managing online abuse for a range of cultural organisations.

The Space have produced a number of resources including a downloadable toolkit, to help the cultural sector prepare for and respond to online abuse.
