Ethical risks and safeguarding in digital projects

January 16 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Watch the webinar:

The Online Safety Act became law in October 2023, and will begin to come into force in late 2024. Many creative technology projects will be affected. The new law gives us a great opportunity to look at safeguarding users and managing ethical risk.

This webinar is aimed at organisations and independent creatives and artists who may be developing digital creative projects, including immersive experiences, user generated content, user-to-user platforms and AI.

We look at the act and what is (and isn’t) in scope and what impact this might have for arts and cultural organisations and their digital projects. We also discuss how the current focus on the safety of audiences (particularly children) online will likely be a force for a wider culture change – much like how GDPR changed attitudes around data processing. We consider safeguarding and ethical risk beyond what’s covered in the act, along with practical strategies to mitigate these potential harms.

We cover:

How might the Online Safety Act affect creatives using online technologies to engage with audiences?

What are some of risks that might occur when creating work with new or immersive technologies?

How should we be thinking about the safety of audiences?

How do we do identify and manage ethical risks?
