Do you have a question?
Perhaps it's one of our frequently asked ones below.
How can I work with the Space?
We work with UK based arts and cultural organisations and artists to capture, extend or create great art using digital technologies and platforms. We do this through funding projects, offering development support, training events and resources. As commissioning rounds and training events are announced, the information will be included on this website.
How can I get commissioned by The Space?
We run two commissioning rounds each year. You can apply to a commissioning round if you meet the commissioning brief that we publicise at the time, and if you are a UK based artist, arts or cultural organisation or an organisation working in the digital space and apply in partnership with an arts organisation or artist(s). If you are successfully shortlisted in the round, your project will then go through a further process where we engage with you around the needs of the project and how we can support it and whether together we feel we can find an audience for the work. If your project then gets 'green lit' we will support you with funding and development plus guidance to get your project live. Even if your project is not successful in that specific round people tell us that the process of going through it can help them hone their ideas, get advice etc.
Whether you apply for our commissioning rounds or not, if you are UK based and working in the arts you can access our free resources and events (our full events programme will be launched soon), which are designed to help develop skills and experience in using technology and digital media in making and disributing great work.
When is your next commissioning round open?
Our commissioning round is open now. Details are available here: commissioning.
What is the process for applying to a commissioning round?
You will need to read the brief and, if you feel your project or concept can meet the brief, put forward a detailed written application. You can apply online via this site. If you have any queries about the commissioning round please email firstname.lastname@example.org
What other things do you offer artists and organisations outside of commissioning?
You can come to our free events if you want to learn more about using digital technologies in the arts, or explore our online resources on this site.
How is The Space funded?
The Space was founded and is funded by the Arts Council England and the BBC. Creative Scotland, the Arts Council of Wales and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland fund and support our commissions in the Nations.
How will I know which training events are happening in my area?
We'll be introducing an events section on this site soon. In the meantime, check the News section for any events announcements.
I want to find details of a past Space commission or project. Where can I find this on your site?
We're in the process of migrating all the content and projects from our former site to this site. Please bear with us. They should all be on the site by end June.
