A first-timers guide to using branching narrative online

December 8, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Watch the webinar here:

The Space, in association with Arts Council England is hosting a webinar for arts organisations and artists who are interested in ‘choose your own adventure’ as a way of enhancing their storytelling.

Online platforms supporting branching narrative have become increasingly accessible – offering low-cost approaches to content creation, and you don’t need to know how to code to make use of them.

In this webinar we look at two distinct case studies which share common themes: in both cases the branching narrative is at the heart of the storytelling, and this was a first venture into developing a project for online audiences using this technology.

We cover:

  • Planning, building and publishing interactive experiences
  • How a branching narrative might enrich your work
  • Creating an experience that resonates with the audience

Contributors:

Sarah Fortescue, from The Space is joined by:

Cat Boot, the artistic director of theatre company Can’t Sit Still. Cat will talk about What Will George Do?  Based on Can’t Sit Still’s stage production of Oh No, George! this online experience recreates the magic and accessibility of the live theatre show, while allowing their young audience to ‘choose their own adventure’, with amazing results.

Magician, scientist and adventurer Kevin Quantum . As well as winning awards and reaching the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, Kevin is the founder of the Edinburgh International Magic Festival MagicFest, and creator of their Virtual Magic School which uses branching narrative technology to give participants an experience of magic lessons that feel as close to live as possible.
