Digitising Kneehigh’s archive

Cornwall’s beloved Kneehigh Theatre Company was closed in June 2021, after 40 years, following the departure of its founder and artistic director Mike Shepherd.

This project digitises and publishes key elements of the Kneehigh Archive – the institutional records of the Company, and only Collection of its kind – in an interactive website to preserve and promote the Kneehigh legacy. The archive website has been created by Falmouth University and is comprised of more than 1500 photographs, interviews, programmes and posters.

This resource is specifically aimed at (but not limited to) A level students who have been disadvantaged by Kneehigh’s closure and the removal of their online educational resource – The Cookbook. The project is unique in that it has an innovative web design to capture Kneehigh’s distinctive spirit in the creative presentation of digitised holdings selected from the Kneehigh Archive.

Other content includes production recordings, evaluation reports and research and development materials, with a focus on those records that showcase Kneehigh’s distinctive methodology.
