This autumn, Shobana Jeyasingh will be touring Staging Schiele, inspired by the extraordinary work and life of Austrian artist Egon Schiele. The company will also capture and live stream the work on 15 November.
Egon Schiele was famous for his unflinching nudes, searing self portraits and scrutiny of the eternal conundrum of the male artist and the female model.
In Staging Schiele, four dancers inhabit Schiele’s highly-charged world of colour, masterful lines and unusual perspectives, a world that puts the human body on visceral display. Shobana Jeyasingh’s award-winning choreography matches the intensity of Schiele, engaging with his anxieties as well as his supreme self-confidence.
Staging Schiele captures the artist’s own self-conscious framing of himself and his work. Both intimate and formal, it throws light on his brief meteoric rise to fame.
With this piece, Shobana is joined by an exceptional creative team – composer Orlando Gough, visual artist Ben Cullen Williams and lighting designer Adam Carree. Video design is by YeastCulture and costume design by Cottweiler.
Watch online on Friday 15 November at 5pm
